I am also an accomplished amateur athlete having completed 20 marathons including three Boston Marathons plus many triathlons including 6 iron distance triathlons and numerous cross country ski loppets. I continue to stay active by running, swimming as well as regularly commuting to work by bike for the health benefits and the environment.

I’m so excited to again be part of this amazing group and also excited to share this journey with my friends!

This brand new trek is designed to raise money for Christie Lake Kids, an organization that has been transforming the lives of children here in Ottawa since 1922! As a lifelong educator, I’ve seen first-hand the positive impact that Christie Lake can make on the lives of children who, through no fault of their own, would otherwise be unable to access arts and recreational programs, summer camps, and leadership opportunities. Christie Lake believes in children and their potential and they strive to remove the financial barriers that may otherwise restrict their kids from being the absolute best that they can be! This July, our climbing team is taking part in a challenging trek up Mount Kilimanjaro, the Roof of Africa! I’ve made the commitment to climb for Christie Lake Kids, to promote this worthwhile organization, and I hope my friends and family will join me in supporting them as well! This is a project designed to raise money for Christie Lake Kids, a wonderful organization that transforms the lives of lower income children right here in Ottawa. Having taught in the Ottawa area for the past 19 years, I've seen the many challenges and barriers faced by children living in lower income communities. All children have the potential to reach their goals, but sometimes the means to access necessary programs isn't there. A growth mindset and positive internal dialogue can be difficult to achieve without access to such programs. Christie Lake Kids provides these necessary recreation and leadership programs throughout the year in communities throughout Ottawa, and at Christie Lake Camp near Perth, Ontario.

What speaks to me the most about the work of Christie Lake Kids is that it is providing social skill development, character building, and physical fitness opportunities to low income boys and girls. Children can develop the dedication, persistence, and positive attitude required to see and feel success, and to set goals for themselves for the future.

Our team is taking part in a challenging climb to the top of Mt. Kilimanjaro - elevation 5895 metres (19 340 ft). We will start our climb towards the end of July 2023, and summit under a full moon on August 1st. Our goal is to raise $25,000 for Christie Lake Kids in order to fund even more new programs for kids in Ottawa! Your donation will help countless kids build the confidence they need along their journey to productive and happy lives.

Our CLK Team of approximately 20 climbers (we are still looking for a few more climbers) hope to raise at least $1000 each; any amount helps! The purpose of this fundraiser is to support children in seven touch spots in the City of Ottawa Christie Lake Kids Charity serves and has served for years; this Charity turned one hundred years old recently. The essential mission of Christie Lake Kids is to transform the lives of underprivileged youth in Ottawa. The Charity provides after-school programming including tutoring, cooking, arts and crafts, a variety of sports, and camping at Christie Lake; many of the participants eventually become counsellors for the Charity as well.I will be making a $1000 donation before the end of 2022 and another $1000 in 2023. Please consider making a donation to Christie Lake Kids Charity in support of underprivileged youth in the City of Ottawa. 93 cents of each donated dollar goes directly to the programming for the Kids. Thanks for visiting our personal fundraising page for our first Christie Lake Climb for Kids. My daughter, Anna, and myself have risen to the challenge of climbing Kilimanjaro together. Anna recently graduated from the School of Performing Arts at Toronto Metropolitan University (Ryerson) and this trip is in part a way to celebrate this achievement. Our family has always been active and we enjoy many outdoor activities including hiking.

We look forward to raising funds for Christie Lake Kids. As a teacher working in a support school, I see firsthand the myriad of needs of children living in low-income communities. After listening to Natalie Benson’s presentation about the history and benefits Christie Lake Kids provides, I was impressed with the significant planning that goes into the programming for the kids. In addition, they not only provide summer camps, but they also provide programs year-round. She also explained how they are one of the only organizations that track the improvements seen in the kids once they have attended the camp. I look forward to fundraising for such a worthy cause and to help bring joy into the lives of children who have many challenges facing them every day.

We are at it again! Remi and I will be part of the Climb for Kids project for the third year! This project was designed to raise money for Christie Lake Kids, an organization based in Ottawa, that helps make the lives of economically disadvantaged children and youth better by providing experiences they would otherwise not be able to have.

Our first adventure: Peru. Second adventure: Mont Blanc. Third adventure: Canceled due to Covid.

We are finally able to get back to raising money for this amazing charity with our adventure to Tanzania where we will climb Mount Kilimanjaro in July 2023.

In 2020, John and I joined an amazing team of trekkers who planned to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in support of Christie Lake Kids, an organization I have come to know and admire. Thanks so much to all of you who supported my fundraising efforts then. Funds raised originally were given to CLK and most appreciated! Unfortunately, the trip didn’t happen due to the pandemic, but it is back on for 2023!

For 100 years, Christie Lake Kids has been transforming the lives of economically disadvantaged children and youth here in Ottawa. Many of you will know the organization for its camp near Perth, which almost 400 kids visit each summer. Christie Lake Kids also provides year-round after-school and weekend programs at no cost and with all barriers to participation removed. These programs help kids build skills, confidence, and resiliency, enriching their lives and better preparing them for adulthood.

I am asking you to become part of our 2023 journey. Our team is taking part in a very challenging climb to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro in Jul 2023. As we train for this climb, we are looking for donations to support Christie Lake Kids. Small donations are most welcome! Even $5 can make a difference for a child participating in an after-school program. All the funds you donate go to Christie Lake Kids - participants on the trek pay 100% of the costs of the trip.

Christie Lake Kids is an amazing organization that is transforming the lives of children here in Ottawa. As a former music teacher in the OCDSB, I know first-hand the impact that Christie Lake can have on the lives of children living in low-income communities. CLK funds both after-school programs (sports and arts) and overnight summer camps for kids who otherwise would not be able to access these formative activities. Through Christie Lake Kids programs, kids not only learn practical skills related to specific activities, they also learn perseverance, social skills, and how to work as part of a team, all crucial to their future success in work and life in general.

Every dollar that we raise helps a child in our community experience learning opportunities that they will carry with them their whole lives.

Our climbing team this year is taking part in the challenging climb of the 5900m roof of Africa. As we start our rigorous training, we hope that you will support us by donating to Christie Lake Kids, helping kids in our community reach their own heights!!
