VOLUNTEERING at Christie Lake Kids
Volunteers are the heart of Christie Lake Kids! You make up the vibrant community of caring individuals committed to delivering the quality programs that all children deserve.
Every year, we engage over 200 volunteers who give their time and skills to our cause. They come from all backgrounds and walks of life, from high school students to industry leaders. It is a diverse and passionate community dedicated to bringing joy and success to young lives and building long-lasting connections!
Without you we would not be able to reach so many children and youth, so we never miss a chance to show our sincerest thanks and appreciation...
VOLUNTEER Roles and Opportunities
As a volunteer, you help us serve economically-disadvantaged communities across Ottawa from September to May in our programs and year-round at our special events.
If you have a specific skill that you wish to pass on or want to engage with kids through a recreational activity, volunteer in our Skills Through the Arts and Recreation (STAR) programs. They run every week for 1-2 hours and include sports, art, STEM, dance, cooking, music, and more!
If your passion is empowering youth, join our Leaders in Training (LIT) programs. Sessions run weekly for 4 hours. You will engage with youth as a caring mentor through fun, leadership building activities, such as self-expression, mind and body awareness, and personal development.
Support our community as a work-party volunteer by traveling to Christie Lake Camp with your colleagues and fulfilling maintenance and construction tasks such as woodworking, gardening, painting and cleaning.
Join us at our various fundraisers throughout the year to help us provide quality programs and an amazing camp experience to the children and youth we serve. To learn more, visit Events.
We partner with various organizations across Ottawa, including Volunteer Ottawa, the University of Ottawa, Carleton University, the Ottawa School of Art, IEEE, and more. To find out about our current volunteer opportunities, check out their websites or see below.

IMPACT Story
Esther
I have been with Christie Lake Kids for 13 years - a camper for 5 years, STAR and Leaders in Training participant, then as a camp counsellor and STAR volunteer.
I feel like I have a unique perspective and first-hand knowledge of the barriers that poverty creates, and I can be a strong example to the children in our programs, motivating them to have the confidence, resilience and strength to pursue their dreams.
I’ve accumulated more than one thousand hours of volunteerism and still counting!
“Christie Lake Kids means a lot to many of us: we call it a safe place and some even call it home. The lifelong relationships I have built with the caring staff and volunteers mean so much to me and I continue to lean on these mentors as I figure out my own future.”
OUR COMMITMENT to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI)
At Christie Lake Kids we respect and celebrate the diversity of our community! We understand and value that our staff, volunteers, and participants come from all backgrounds, and are committed to providing a safe and caring space for everyone. This includes new Canadians, refugees, indigenous children and youth, individuals with learning and other disabilities, individuals who are LGBTQIA+, and people from a variety of cultural, religious, and socio-economic backgrounds. We stand for a truly equitable society and strive to impart that value to every member of our community.
