Segun Makinde - Olymipic Track and Field Athlete
Segun is a Nigerian-born Canadian Track & Field athlete competeing in the 100m, 200m, 4x100m events, and is the oldest brother of three. He is a 2012 Olympian, 2013 IAAF World Champion Bronze Medalist, 2-time World University Games competitor, and 2013 Francophone Games double gold Medalist.
As a child Segun always enjoyed being active and played different sports growing up. However, it wasn't until high school where Segun discovered Track & Field and a love for the sport was born. He soon joined the local Ottawa Lions Track & Field Club and started training under the eye of 1996 Olympic gold medalist Glenroy Gilbert. Since then he has travelled to over 16 different countries and has represented Canada at an interantional event every year since 2007. The most notable event being the 2012 Olympic Games in London, England.
A graduate of the University of Ottawa, with a B.Com (Marketing) degree, Segun currently lives and trains in Ottawa and while away from the track gives back through volunteer work and speaking at local schools and events. His aim is to inspire and influence the next generation to be great in all they do and say. An avid sports fan as well as a muscian, he enjoys watching his favourite soccer team Arsenal play and playing the drums at church.
Segun joins Christie Lake Kids as a Community Ambassador in 2016.
