Alex Mateas - Offensive Lineman for the Ottawa Red Blacks

Alex Mateas was the first overall 2015 CFL draft pick, and currently an offensive lineman for the Ottawa Redblacks. Originally from Ottawa Alex is thrilled to call the nations capital his home again. Before being drafted to the Redblacks Alex played football for the University of Connecticut Huskies, starting 29 games over 3 years, 24 were consecutive starts making 2 full seasons. Alex grew up playing every sport he could, soccer, basketball, volleyball, judo, weightlifting and eventually football.

"I attribute a lot of my success to the role models I had as a young kid in sports. The after-school, weekend and summer opportunities I had taught me how to work in a team, set goals, and work hard to accomplish those goals. When you learn at a young age that when you put your mind to something you can accomplish it, opens a child's eyes and builds their confidence, which are the stepping stones to having a successful and fulfilling life."

"I have chosen to devote my time and resources to helping The Christie Lake Camp (kids) because of the enthusiasm and dedication the staff shows towards their cause. It is an unbelievable team of people who want to make a difference in a child's life, and will continue to work as hard as possible to continue to see the growth of their program. My goal as an ambassador for the Christie Lake Kids is to influence as many kids as I can by spending time with them, playing games, and sharing the struggles that I have gone through to make it to where I am today. "
