CLIMB FOR KIDS

An 11-Day Trek Through the Ausangate Region of Peru

In August of this year we will be travelling to raise much needed funds for Christie Lake Kids programs. This trip represents a-once- in-a lifetime opportunity for a great personal challenge and great way to fundraise for CLK!

The Rainbow Mountains of Ausangate
Southern Peru’s Cordillera Vilcanota is not only home to some of the most varied and magnificent landscapes in the Andes but also to the Sacred Mountain of Ausangate (6372m), revered by many as the mountain spirit upon which life depends.

This spectacular trek reaches isolated shepherding communities, high altitude lakes and peaceful meadows where wild alpacas graze. High passes lead the way to the foot of Ausangate’s glacier, a sight to behold. After the trek, the team will be returning to Cusco and visiting the sacred cities Macchu Piccu.

Although our spots are filled, contact us to get on our wait list or to join next year’s adventure.

This is a brand new project designed to raise money for Christie Lake Kids, an organization that is transforming the lives of children here in Ottawa. As a lifelong educator, I’ve seen first-hand the impact that Christie Lake can make in the lives of children living in low-income communities. Christie Lake believes in children and their potential and they strive to remove the financial barriers that may otherwise restrict their kids from being the absolute best that they can be! Here’s where you come in!

This August, our climbing team is taking part in a challenging trek to the Rainbow Mountains (5200 m) in Peru. I’ve made the commitment to climb for Christie Lake Kids, and I hope my friends and family will join me in supporting them as well! Our team is looking for donations to assist Christie Lake in their efforts to support their children and I hope you will join us on this journey and consider making a donation to Christie Lake Climb for Kids.

Thanks Everyone!

This is a brand new project designed to raise money for Christie Lake Kids, a wonderful organization that is transforming the lives of children here in Ottawa. As a music teacher with the OCDSB, I know first-hand the impact that Christie Lake can make in the lives of children living in low-income communities. Many of my current and former students have benefitted greatly from the skills they have learned in the sports and arts programs and the lasting friendships they've made through their involvement in these activities.

For me, what is most important about Christie Lake Kids is their commitment to transform the lives of children. Christie Lake Kids is committed to accompanying young people on their journey to a productive, happy life and I want all of you to become part of that journey!

Our climbing team is taking part in a challenging climb to the Rainbow Mountain (5200 m) in Peru. As a musician, I'm really excited about soaking in some of the Peruvian music scene while we're there! Unfortunately I don't think I'll be hauling my bass up the mountain but am hoping to incorporate some of what I hear there into creative projects once I return home. As we train for this climb, we are looking for donations to support Christie Lake.

Thanks very much for your support! You are really helping us to create a new fundraising experience and we are very happy to have you on the journey!!

As a grade 7/8 teacher, I climb (and stumble) with kids every day. I know how Christie Lake Kids (CLK) programs enrich and expand the lives and families of the children I teach and know so well. Many of my past, current and future students participate in CLK in-city recreation programs and in the annual summer camp outside of Perth, Ontario. Our family has been inextricably linked to CLK for many years with all three children being counsellors and our son Liam and daughter Mairi serving as Director and Associate Director for many years.

This August, when I climb the Rainbow Mountain, I will be there for the climbing team, myself (and my new hip), my students, my family and friends, CLK and for a brand new, exciting adventure. Beneficience.

As mother of two wonderful boys, an Educational Assistant with the Catholic School Board for 10 years and an Early Childhood Educator (RECE), I believe that all children should be given opportunities to grow, have experiences and challenge themselves regardless of their socio-economic status.

This unique fundraiser is to raise money and bring awareness to a wonderful organization that benefits the lives of many children living in Ottawa.

Christie Lake Kids offers inner-city sport and recreation as well as camps for hundreds of Ottawa's disadvantaged children and youth each year. They have served our community for nearly one hundred years and here is our opportunity to give back.

Our climbing team is taking part in a challenging climb to the Rainbow Mountains (5200 m) in Peru. As we train for this climb, we are looking for donations to support Christie Lake Kids.

During my childhood I was fortunate enough to be raise in a family that could afford to let me participate in summer camps, sporting activities and other programs. These activities helped me develop skills that I was able to apply in the world of grown ups, they probably helped me stay out of trouble as well. So many young people in our communities don't have access to the benefits that these programs offer, Christie Lake Kids ensures that these future leaders have the opportunity to develop some of the skills that might help them achieve their goals.

I joined this adventure for a few reasons, one of them being to explore and learn about a new country. I can't wait to dive back into the beautiful culture of Latin America! I also want to support this wonderful organization that changes the lives of so many children. The money raised on this page will enable kids to participate in so many activities they would not be able to do otherwise, such as going to camp, being in nature, sports, arts and more.

Our team of 16 will be taking part in a challenging climb to the Rainbow Mountain in Peru. As we train for this climb, we are looking for donations to support Christie Lake.

Thank you very much for your support! Think of all the kids who will benefit from your generosity!

I joined this adventure for two reason, first, to challenge myself both physically and mentally and second, to help support kids and youth in this city. As a vice-principal, I often see and hear kids with broken hearts because their parents can't afford to send them to summer camp. Christie Lake changes this for many kids. Make sure you visit their page to see all they offer! This is one small thing I can do to help better the lives of many children.

Our team of 16 will be taking part in a challenging climb to the Rainbow Mountain in Peru. As we train for this climb, we are looking for donations to support Christie Lake.

Thank you very much for your support! Think of all the students who will benefit from your generosity! I will match donations up to $500!

Hello! I am an educational assistant with the Ottawa Catholic School Board, and I've been fortunate enough to work with many amazing children throughout the years. I'm very proud to work with my team and support Christie Lake Kids, in our quest to climb Rainbow Mountain, Peru!

Christie Lake Kids is an organization dedicated in providing opportunities to inner-city kids in Ottawa, giving youth extraordinary life changing experiences. These programs remain free with the generous donations of supporters.

We appreciate any and all support, as every little bit puts us closer to our goal. Let's climb this mountain together!

As the Director of recLINK and the Ottawa Community Housing (OCH) Foundation we have more than 10,000 children and youth living in our social housing neighbourhoods across Ottawa. A great majority of kids Christie Lake serves come from these low-income areas. This climb is for them.

Being excluded from community based recreation programs is both a result of and a contributor to cyclical and generational poverty. Regular involvement of kids in structured, skill building recreational activities helps develop self-esteem helps to build resilience and protect against the risks of low success in school and later the labour market. This is exactly what Christie Lake Kids has been doing since 1922.

Christie Lake Kids is the ONLY organization in Ottawa that provides after-school programs AND camps completely free to low-income families. But providing these types of amazing programs and not actually free for CLK. It costs around $1,200 per child for summer camp. With your help, together we will help CLK put one child through camp this year.

There are lots of ways you can help me reach this goal; Share a social media post, come to an event, volunteer, or donate to my campaign! Please follow me on my journey and send lots of words of encouragement as I train to hike Rainbow Mountain in August! #CLKClimbForKids

Muchas gracias!

This is a brand new project designed to raise money for Christie Lake Kids, a wonderful organization that is transforming the lives of children here in Ottawa. As a former elementary school teacher, I know first-hand the impact that Christie Lake can make in the lives of children living in low-income communities. I have taught many children who loved having a camping/ outdoors experience that their families would never be able to afford on their own. These experiences have made a difference in their outlook on life and academic success.

Our climbing team is taking part in a challenging climb to the Rainbow Mountain (5200 m) in Peru. As a focus for this climb, we are asking for donations to support Christie Lake.
