Position Title: S.T.A.R. Program Driver
Program: Christie Lake Kids S.T.A.R. Program
(Skills Through Activity and Recreation)
Reports To: Program Director
Job Summary
Acts as a team member to ensure the safe delivery of the S.T.A.R. (Skills Through Activity and Recreation) Program to economically disadvantaged children living in Ottawa-Carleton. Responsible for the safe transportation of all participants.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Act as a positive role model for children, youth, volunteers, instructors and co-workers.
- Ensure the safety of all passengers before, during and after transport.
- Responsible for vehicle maintenance, refueling, checking and filling all fluids, and reporting any other problems to the Program Coordinator promptly.
- Participate in the transfer of passenger care between the driver and program staff.
- Complete safety circle checks prior to daily departures.
- Monitor and tracks passenger attendance, keeping accurate head counts.
- Participate and assist in training opportunities for program staff, instructors, volunteers and students, as necessary.
- Ensure that contacts related to programs by participants, parents and other interested parties are responded to effectively and efficiently.
- Protect the confidentiality of client information.
- Complete and maintains accurate and up-to-date logs.
- Complete incident and accident reports as required and return them within 24 hours to the Program Coordinator.
- Report all incidents and accidents to the Program Coordinator immediately.
- Report all incidents, accidents, and client behavioral difficulties to the on-site Program Supervisor upon arriving at the destination.
- Assure the vehicle is securely locked and stored in its designated spot after each time it is driven.
- Assure the vehicle is regularly cleared of debris.
- Performs other duties as requested.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalent in combination of education and experience.
- Valid “F” class license.
- Current driver abstract.
- Current Standard First Aid and Basic Rescuer CPR.
- Current Police Record Check.
- Previous experience working with children and youth is an asset.
- Previous experience working with multicultural populations and disadvantaged groups is an asset.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and sensitivity to people from diverse cultural and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Fluency in English essential, French or other an asset.
- Ability to work flexible hours when required.
Special Working Conditions
The S.T.A.R. Program Driver will be required to work during both after school and weekend hours, in non-office locations identified by the organization.
Salary
To be determined commensurate with the successful candidate’s education, training, and experience.
